Buddha, also called Siddhartha Gautama, was a Nepalese religious philosopher who preached around the 5th century BCE. He essentially formed Buddhism, which teaches meditation, non-attachment, and doing no harm.

Here are some remarkable Buddha quotes on gratitude, at least those related to happiness and generosity. I hope you can see the beauty in these quotes and take some inspiration from them.

Buddha quotes on gratitude

There aren’t really any Buddha quotes specifically discussing gratitude and being grateful. But there are many that discuss love and paths to happiness. I’ve pulled these quotes and added my two cents at the end of some of them.

Enjoy and leave a comment with your own thoughts on the quotes.

“Drop by drop is the water pot filled. Likewise, the wise man, gathering it little by little, fills himself with good.” – Buddha

My thoughts: fill yourself up with good positive vibes and gratitude! A little at a time every day and you’ll get there.

“Generosity brings happiness at every stage of its expression. We experience joy in forming the intention to be generous. We experience joy in the actual act of giving something. And we experience joy in remembering the fact that we have given.” – Buddha

My thoughts: being generous always makes us feel good and happy so there is so much truth to this quote. Give without any expectations and with pure kindness and you’ll always have those internal warm fuzzy feelings.

“Should a person do good, Let him do it again and again. Let him find pleasure therein, For blissful is the accumulation of good.” – Buddha

“An act to make another happy, inspires the other to make still another happy, and so happiness is aroused and abounds. Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the single candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” – Buddha

My thoughts: joy, happiness and gratitude are not finite resources. Sharing them actually grows them so share the happiness and do what you can to pay it forward.

“All things appear and disappear because of the concurrence of causes and conditions. Nothing ever exists entirely alone; everything is in relation to everything else.” – Buddha

My thoughts: essentially everything and everyone are all connected. There is tremendous beauty in that concept and something to be grateful for.

As I mentioned there aren’t many quotes related to gratitude.

The sources of many of these quotes are from the incredible site: Fake Buddha Quotes. The writers are really dedicated to verifying that quotes attributed to Buddha are actually true (sadly many aren’t including ones posted on Good Reads!).

Still, I hope you can find inspiration in these beautiful sayings and have a wonderful, happy day.
