Using weekly journal prompts can be a great way to track your progress whether it is with self discovery, self growth or achieving your goals. These help you to reflect on the past, reset for the new week and prioritize what you want to achieve.

They are not only about growth though. It’s important to pay attention to self care and making your inner child happy. So, let’s journal and pay attention to all the parts of you.

Weekly reflection journal prompts

Let’s reflect on what happened the week before.

The good stuff

  • On a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 is terrible and 5 is incredible, how would you rate last week?
  • What did you do last week that made you really happy?
  • Did you give yourself grace and compassion last week?
  • What are 5 things you were grateful for? (excluding the answers in #2)
  • Did you try anything new last week like a habit, workout or recipe?
  • How did it go? Would you do it again?
  • If you could describe last week in 5 words, what would they be? (e.g. eventful, tiring, exciting, fun, etc)
  • What inspired you the most last week?
  • Did anything go according to plan last week?
  • What did you do for self care? Did it make you feel rejuvenated?
  • How did you step out of your comfort zone last week? Would you do it again?

The not so good stuff

  • Was there anything that made you sad last week? (substitute other emotions here like annoyed, fearful, joyful, etc)
  • Can you do something about what made you sad?
  • What left you feeling drained? Or who left you feeling this way?
  • Did anything not go according to plan last week? What happened?
  • Describe the greatest lesson you learned for the week.

What’s due?

  • What chores do you need to get done this week?
  • Are there any important events or birthdays this week?
  • What about bills? What’s due?
  • What are the top priorities for the week?
  • Do these priorities match your values? Will they get you to where you want to be?

Themes and lists

  • If you had to give the upcoming week a theme, what would it be? (e.g. adventure week, rest week)
  • Create an affirmation that will inspire you during the week.
  • Define what success looks like for the week.
  • What activities do you want to include during the week that’ll make you happy?
  • Create a wish list for the week. Manifest it!
  • How will self care look like this week? Face masks, spa treatments maybe?

Self growth

  • Is there anything you can do to build your resilience or skill set?
  • Did you notice if you had any cognitive distortions or self sabotaging behavior last week?
  • What can you do differently to reduce the effects of the distortions?
  • What can you do to make someone else’s week better?
  • What habits do you want to work on this week?

Planning ahead

  • What are you excited for in the upcoming week?
  • Are you dreading anything?
  • How do you plan on making the hard tasks easier this week? (e.g. call a friend before a tough meeting, listen to relaxing music while working)
  • How are you going to reward yourself this week?
  • If you needed to protect your peace, what would you do?
  • What’s the one thing you can do this week that will make you feel instantly happier?
  • Is there anyone you want to connect with more this week?
  • Let’s say you achieved your definition of success for the week. How would you celebrate?
  • What would you do next if you achieved everything you set out to do?
